Ragtag Host “Food Inc.” Showing & Panel Discussion

At a sold-out showing of “Food Inc.” on Monday evening at Ragtag Cinemcafe, a group of panelists made up of local food organization leaders and businesspeople, talked about the film and took a wide variety questions from the audience.

“Taste of the Market”

If you are looking for fresh local food prepared by the top chefs in Columbia then the second annual “Taste of the Market” is for you. On Saturday August 1st from 6pm to 11pm at the Columbia Farmers Market come out and enjoy great local food, wine, entertainment and so much more. Best of all proceeds from the event benefit the Columbia Farmers Market Pavilion Campaign.

July Proclaimed as Local Food Month

First Lady Michelle Obama showed her support for fresh and local food with the White House garden. Now First Lady of Missouri Georganne Wheeler Nixon and Missouri Department of Agriculture proclaimed July as “Local Foods Month” in Missouri and highlighted the first community garden on the grounds of the Department on Agriculture.

Initiatives like this are important with the daunting challenges of the food safety crises, diet related health issues and many more. With these challenges addressing food policy is one way to tackle many of the issues. Initiatives like this start the conversation of food policy and move the country in the right direction with more focus on local fresh and accessible foods to all.

Farm Aid Comes to St. Louis

Farm Aid announced last Thursday, July 16th that they would bring it’s annual benefit concert to St. Louis on October 4th 2009, this will be the first time that Farm Aid will stage the event in Missouri. With Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews this is one
all-star concert that is a must see.
